Who got the props? Watch as the area’s most elite MCs compete for the title of Michigan’s best young rapper. Competitors will embark on a three-round challenge, putting their lyrical skills to the test in front of a panel of esteemed judges.

SATURDAY, MAY 6

CROSSING THE STREET

All competing and non-competing youth will kick-off Saturday morning with an icebreaker and dialogue. This event is the spirit of LTAB, as it helps connect young artists with one another in collaboration and conversation. Competing teams are required to attend.

PRELIMINARY BOUTS

Teams will battle in head-to-head poetry slams. Two phases of four simultaneous bouts will happen from 1-3pm and from 3:30-5:30pm. Every team is guaranteed two bouts. Come cheer on your favorites and discover new young poets to love.

InsideOut Literary Arts Project’s Youth Advisory Board will host and curate an open mic for all high school-aged students at LTAB. The night will include opportunities for young poets to get on the mic and will feature a special performance by renowned author, Nate Marshall.

SUNDAY, MAY 7

YOUTH WORKSHOPS

Poets will work alongside renown artists, organizers, and activists for a variety of craft, performance, and cultural spaces. These workshops are designed to offer students a focused experience around a number of relevant literary topics. A list of facilitators is forthcoming.

The final four teams will compete for the title of Michigan’s poetry slam champion. The event will also feature sounds from DJ Dante Lasalle and a number of special guest performers.
